FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating. It commonly affects the palms, soles of feet, underarms, and face. This condition can significantly impact quality of life due to social embarrassment, reduced self-confidence, and interference with daily activities.

People with hyperhidrosis may experience difficulties in professional and social situations, leading to avoidance behaviours and impaired relationships. Additionally, the constant moisture can contribute to skin infections and discomfort, further exacerbating the condition's effects on daily life.

Treatment options include topical antiperspirants, medications, botulinum toxin injections, iontophoresis, and in severe cases, surgery.

How do Botulinum toxin injections help?

Botulinum toxin injections are an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. When injected into the affected area, it works by blocking the signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands.

This temporarily reduces the production of sweat in the treated area. Sweat Solutions is specialised in providing access to botulinum toxin injections for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Treatment of underarm sweating may be bulk billed; check eligibility by clicking on the link below:

How are injections performed?

Botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis typically involves several injections administered in a grid pattern across the affected area. Injections are delivered using an ultrafine needle. The procedure is relatively quick, minimally invasive and is performed in a clinic.

Results can be noticed within a few days to a week after the treatment and can last anywhere from 4 to 6 months, depending on the individual.

The benefits of botulinum toxin injections for hyperhidrosis include significant reduction or elimination of excessive sweating, improved comfort and confidence in social and professional situations, and a better overall quality of life for those affected by the condition.

Is it painful?

Injections for underarm sweating are generally minimally painful. Pain management options include applying ice, topical anaesthetic (EMLA), oral or inhaled medications. Additionally, the injections are administered using ultra-fine needles, further minimising discomfort.

Many patients report only mild sensations, such as a slight pinch or pressure, during the procedure. Overall, the low levels of discomfort associated with botulinum toxin injections make them a well-tolerated and effective treatment option for axillary hyperhidrosis.

Treatment in the palms and soles of the feet can be much more painful. Ifyou are targeting these areas or have any questions or concerns about pain management, please book a bulk billed consultation in person or via telehealth to discuss options for pain management.

Is it expensive?

Injections for underarm sweating are bulk billed if you fulfil Medicare eligibility. Check Medicare eligibility by clicking on the link below.

Injections to other regions are not covered under Medicare and will involve additional fees.

These will vary depending on the number of areas involved and if additional vials of Botulinum Toxin are required.

Is it safe?

While injections are generally safe, particularly in the underarms, there can be side effects such as temporary muscle weakness or pain at the injection side.

Please consult with a qualified healthcare professional to determine if botulinum toxin treatment is suitable and safe for individual cases of hyperhidrosis.

Book a bulk billed consultation in person or via telehealth to discuss the suitability of botulinum toxin injections and any concerns about safety.
